Army deserter found in Charleston, taken to jail

A man who was sought for deserting the Army was found in Kanawha County and taken to jail Monday.

Capt. Sean Crosier said Kanawha County deputies received a tip that Matthew Jack Kirk, 35, of Long Branch Road in Charleston was staying at his parents' home.

Sgt. C.J. Savilla, Cpl. J.S. Cochran and Deputy J.R. Hatfield went there just before 5 p.m. and took Kirk into custody without incident.  

He was transported to South Central Regional Jail where he will await a pickup from Army Officials.

No further information was available Tuesday morning.
