CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A West Side woman who knifed her boyfriend during an argument, killing him last year, should be out of jail this summer.
Stacy Marie McCormick, 30, of Washington Street West was sentenced to a year in South Central Regional Jail for the death of David Edward Snyder in August. She has already served 193 days, however, and gets credit for that time.
Kanawha Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib sentenced McCormick Monday. He allowed Delores Snyder, mother of the victim, to speak first.
"It's up to you, your honor, I respect your judgment," she said.
But afterward, Delores Snyder said she wasn't happy with the plea agreement that allowed McCormick to face a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter instead of murder.
"God help her soul and I hope she gets the help she needs to," she said. "I'm disappointed, but glad that he did send her back to jail.
"It was no accident," she said. "She threatened David so many times before and all he tried to do was help her."
David died several days after suffering stab wounds at the couple's home. McCormick was initially charged with malicious wounding, but prosecutors upped the charge to murder when the man died.
