Judge postpones trial for suspect in shooting death
A trial for an Eastern Kanawha County man accused of murder has been postponed.
Brent Burdette was expected to go on trial this week before Kanawha Circuit Court Judge Charles King. Burdette is charged in the July 12, 2012 shooting death of William Cordle II, 21.
Cordle's family members appeared in court, all wearing the victim's photograph pinned to their clothing. They clutched hands and wept as Burdette came into the courtroom.
But attorneys agreed that a continuance was needed to review a testing report of the alleged weapon. That report was just received by prosecutors Monday morning.
Burdette's trial is now scheduled for April 15. Cordle was found lying on Elaine Drive with a single gunshot wound to the chest and Burdette was arrested shortly afterwards.
