Deputies responded to reports about 8 p.m. Sunday regarding a man in a red Ford driving along Fern Ridge Drive in Big Chimney while waving a pistol, said Capt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Deputy M.S. Sims stopped a car driven by William James Shaw, 29, of Fern Ridge Drive. Shaw denied having any weapons but said he did have marijuana under the driver's seat, Crosier said.
Deputy C.D. Lyons arrived with a canine and the officers were alerted of the presence of narcotics. A search revealed two ounces of marijuana, scales and other drug paraphernalia. Street value of the marijuana is about $500.
Shaw was arrested and charged with one count of possession of marijuana. No firearms were found. He is being held in South Central Regional Jail with bail set at $10,000.
