CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Clendenin woman who allegedly struck and killed a man with her car and then fled the scene will go on trial June 24 before Kanawha Circuit Judge Carrie Webster.
Lynsey Marie Taylor, 23, of Thorofare Road, was arrested after the death of pedestrian Dennis James in January 2012.
James was walking with his girlfriend near his Blue Creek home on Elk River Road about 11:20 p.m. Jan. 27 when he was struck by a vehicle that kept going. He had just left a birthday celebration for his sister at the home of his pastor.
Fragments of headlights found at the scene led authorities to Taylor's mother, who said her daughter was driving the car at the time.
Taylor initially told police she hit a deer on Little Sandy Road, causing that damage. But surveillance tapes from businesses in the area placed Taylor at the scene of the accident that killed James. She is free pending her trial on a $200,000 property bond. She is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. If convicted, she faces a possible one to five years in prison.
