String of break-ins on West Side under investigation
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Police are investigating a string of break-ins at businesses on Charleston's West Side.
Detective Jarl Taylor said eight businesses in the Patrick Street area have been broken into in the last two to three weeks. Among those robbed were Key West Tanning on Patrick Street and Ed's RC, a hobby shop in Hills Plaza, he said.
The hobby shop was robbed after closing on March 11. The suspect, a white male seen in store surveillance video wearing a dark hoodie, forced entry through the front door and then stole the cash drawer. He hopped over a glass display case and fled.
Taylor said the scenes at other businesses were similar. He said investigators believe the same suspect is behind all of them and may not be working alone.
Detectives were out Thursday looking for clues in the area, he said. Anyone with information can contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 304-348-6480.
