CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Mercer County mother accused of shooting and killing another mother in Bluefield after an argument was trying to revive the woman when State Police arrived.
Judith Helen Kowaleski, 42, of Bluefield remained at Southern Regional Jail where she is being held without bond on a first-degree murder charge. She was arrested Friday, the day after Elizabeth Slagle, also 42, of Bluefield was shot and killed.
Troopers and paramedics were called Thursday evening to a fight in Bluefield where one woman allegedly had been tasered and another had been shot.
Trooper J.C. Teubert found Kowaleski and Barbra Harrington performing CPR on Slagle when he arrived at the scene, according to a complaint filed in Mercer Magistrate Court.
George Slagle, a bystander, told the trooper that Elizabeth Slagle tasered Kowaleski and Harrington and that Kowaleski, his girlfriend, shot the woman.
Kowaleski told the investigator that Elizabeth Slagle had used the taser on her and that she was trying to get her off of her when the gun went off.
Paramedics took Elizabeth Slagle to Bluefield Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest. She later died from her injuries.
