Fayette man fatally shot during altercation
OAK HILL -- A Fayette County man was killed and another was arrested after a shooting at Mountainair Mobile Home Park in Glen Jean, according to a news release from Sheriff Steve Kessler.
Fayette County dispatchers were notified of the shooting at 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Deputies arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, where he was later pronounced dead.
Shortly after deputies arrived, a man came out of a nearby residence holding a handgun. He dropped the weapon when deputies ordered him to do so and was arrested without incident.
The preliminary investigation indicates the incident began with a physical altercation between the two men.
The victim has been identified as Gary Wayne Smith, 22, of Hilltop. His body was taken to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Charleston.
The suspect has been identified as Matthew Paul Graveley, 29, also of Hilltop. He has been charged with murder and taken to Southern Regional Jail.
