Deputies are investigating a head on collision in eastern Kanawha County that sent four people to a local hospital.
A Glasgow police officer was patrolling U.S. 60 near Shrewsbury Thursday afternoon when he noticed a westbound white van crossing the centerline, said Cpl. Brian Humphreys, a spokesman for the Kanawha Sheriff's Department. The officer turned around and was catching up with the van when it crossed the line again into the path of a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The vehicles collided head-on. Humphreys said the 36-year-old female driver of the SUV suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her two passengers, 14-year-old and 7-month-old children, were taken to a hospital to be evaluated. Humphreys said they were not believed to have been injured.
The driver of the van, a 70-year-old man, also was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Both lanes of U.S. 60 was closed for several hours while first responders worked at the scene.Deputy C.D. Lyons is investigating.
