CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Mercer County man who admitted to shooting a confidential police informant was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
Shawn T. Anderson, 36, of Bluefield was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge David Faber on Monday.
Anderson pleaded guilty in October to carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, according to a statement by U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.
Anderson admitted to meeting with the informant near Bluefield in December 2011. He confronted the informant about cooperating with police and pulled a gun, trying to scare the informant out of working with authorities.
He then fired several rounds. One struck the informant in the hand.The Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney John File handled prosecution.
