CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Deputies are investigating after a Putnam County man was shot in the face in Institute.
It happened just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Smoot Avenue and Carver Street in Institute. Kanawha sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the intersection to investigate a shooting after residents reported hearing gunshots in the area, said Cpl. Brian Humphreys, Kanawha sheriff's spokesman.
Deputies found the victim, a Poca man believed to be in his 50s, had been shot once in the face. He was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital.
No motives or suspect names were being released Sunday, but investigators had several leads in the case.
