CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Georgia fugitive wanted for trying to kill police officers during an armed robbery has been arrested in Charleston.
Rashad Akeem Williams, 21, was sought by the Macon Police Department in Georgia for allegedly firing at officers during a robbery there.
The Charleston Police Department, U.S. Marshals and members of the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team arrested Akeem on the West Side of Charleston early Wednesday.
Fugitive-from-justice charges will be filed against Williams, and he will be held at the South Central Regional Jail pending an extradition hearing in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Williams may face additional local charges related to the arrest, which came after a search warrant was executed at the residence where he was found, according to a news release from the drug team.Officials said the case might be taken up by federal prosecutors so no additional information was released.
