Charleston man dies after crash on I-64 Oakwood Road exit
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Charleston man killed in a single vehicle crash on an interstate off ramp may have suffered a pre-existing medical condition, police said.
Kenneth Hughes, 59, of Charleston was traveling on the Oakwood Road exit ramp from Interstate 64 about 1:45 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his SUV, Lt. Shawn Williams, commander of the Charleston Police Community Services Division, said in a release.
The SUV struck a barrier wall before running off the road up a hillside and into a tree, police said. Hughes' vehicle suffered major damage.
Charleston firefighters cut him out of the vehicle and took him to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital. He died later Sunday from a result of the crash, Williams said.
Officers are investigating the cause of the crash but have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor.
