Authorities investigating fires as possible arson

By From staff reports

Authorities are investigating suspicious fires that are expected to be arson, said C.W. Sigman, Kanawha County fire coordinator.

A mobile home was destroyed by fire Friday night on Simmons Creek Road in Belle, he said.

"It was pretty far up the hollow and appeared to be vacant," Sigman said. "The fire department got it out fast but it was gutted. There have been a few suspicious fires" in that area.

Meanwhile, firefighters responded to a mobile home fire at 12:45 a.m. Saturday at 437 First Ave. N. off Route 817 below St. Albans, he said.

The mobile home had recently been set up and was not yet occupied, he said. That fire is also believed to be arson and officials have a suspect in that case, he said.
