A Summers County man was killed and a Fayette County man was injured in a head-on collision near Oak Hill. The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on W.Va. 61 near Camp Branch Road. Fayette deputies found one of the drivers dead at the scene.
Deputies have not yet released the man's name but described him as a 69-year-old Summers County resident, according to a press release from the sheriffs department. His body was taken to Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.
The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Jeffrey Hilewitz, 53, of Cannelton. He was flown by HealthNet to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital, the release said. He remained under evaluation Tuesday evening, according to a hospital operator.
Deputies had not determined what caused the crash Tuesday evening but said the preliminary investigation showed Hilewitz crossed the centerline and struck the other vehicle head-on.
