Man high on meth, armed with knives, breaks into St. Albans home

By From staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Police say a Cabin Creek area man high on meth and armed with a hunting knife and a hatchet broke into a St. Albans home while the resident was inside.

St. Albans police were dispatched Tuesday evening to the 2000 block of Seventh Avenue where a man was reportedly beating on the back door of a woman's house. The woman told officers  the man already had gotten into her basement.

When officers arrived, they found David A. Pettry, 28, of Miami, standing outside the enclosed back porch holding a large hunting knife and a hatchet, Capt. James Agee said in a press release. He complied with verbal commands and was taken into custody.

Pettry told officers he was high on meth and was trying to find someone to help him, Agee said.

The resident told police she heard Pettry in the basement before he found his way to the porch. She said he was pounding on the door and at one point exposed himself to her.

Pettry was charged with daytime burglary and was arraigned in Kanawha Magistrate Court.
