A Texas man is in jail after allegedly pulling a gun on a woman, taking cash from her, and leading police on a car chase from South Charleston to Charleston's West Side.
A woman who made a 911 call about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday said a man had pointed a gun at her when she was in the vicinity of Ninth and E streets, said Sgt. F.S. Beane of the South Charleston Police Department. The man was a passenger in a vehicle and was acquainted with the victim, he said. It isn't clear whether she was in the same car when the robbery occurred.
Police followed the vehicle on a chase from that area to Corridor G. During the pursuit, the passenger tossed a gun from the car window.
Police continued to follow the vehicle to the 500 block of Wyoming Street on Charleston's West Side, where the driver stopped the car and ran.
Police apprehended Dario Jino Martin, 23, as he tried to hide beneath the vehicle, Beane said.
However, the driver managed to get away as he fled on foot between houses.
Martin is originally from Texas and it is not clear why he was in West Virginia.
He had a pound and a half of marijuana in his possession, Beane said, and was arrested on charges of possession with intent to deliver and armed robbery.
Martin is lodged in South Central Regional Jail with bond set at $50,000.
Police do not have an exact name for the suspect who fled on foot but know that his street name starts with the letter W.
