Resident accused of fatally shooting stepfather

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Raleigh County man shot and killed his stepfather and tried to shoot his mother in their home over the weekend, authorities said.

Donald Gray Dunn Jr., 23, of Stanaford, was arrested Saturday morning after the shooting.

Dunn allegedly shot his stepfather, Mark McDermott, 47, and tried to shoot his mother, Johanna McDermott, in their Overlook Drive home in Stanaford, which is just east of Beckley, according to a statement by the Raleigh Sheriff's Department.

Mark McDermott died of his injuries. A secretary at the sheriff's department did not know what Johanna McDermott's condition was Sunday.

Dunn was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. He is being held at Southern Regional Jail without bond. Detectives still are investigating.
