CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A woman was injured Monday after falling over a slope near the Gauley River in Fayette County.
The 37-year-old woman was riding an all-terrain vehicle about 5 p.m. when it went off the road at Woods Ferry in the Lower Gauley River Canyon, said Robin Snyder, spokeswoman for New River Gorge National River, in a press release.
The ATV stopped, but the woman fell over a slope. Passersby saw an ATV wheel and heard the woman calling for help.
Firefighters from Nuttall and Ansted responded, along with National Park Service rangers and the Fayette County High Angle Rescue team.
The woman, whose name has not been released, suffered a concussion, broken ribs, a broken arm and other potential injuries.
She was flown via HealthNet to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital.
