CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Police are investigating after more than $10,000 in religious valuables were stolen from a Parkersburg area church.
Parkersburg police were called to First Lutheran Church in north Parkersburg Sunday morning to investigate after church officials discovered items were missing, Sgt. Greg Collins said in a release.
It wasn't clear how the suspects got into the church as no signs of forced entry were found, nor was there any damage to the church, Collins said. The suspects removed $10,000 in religious items from a storage room.
Church officials called police again at noon Sunday after an employee at the 19th Street Meat Market contacted them with information. The employee said some of the stolen items were found inside a pink backpack in a dumpster.
Collins said still missing are two silver chalices, two silver patens and a silver flagon.
