CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Clay County man is recovering after his vehicle crashed into a dirt bank over the weekend in Fayette County.
Fayette deputies were dispatched Saturday afternoon after a single vehicle crash was reported on Fayette 2 near Bell Creek Road in Dixie. Officers found the vehicle in the middle of the road when they arrived.
It appeared the vehicle crashed into a dirt bank, and then overturned and landed in the middle of the road, according to a sheriff's department press release. Firefighters from Gauley Bridge and Gauley River responded with medics from Jan Care Ambulance Service.
Firefighters freed the driver, Jeffrey J. Arnold, 24, of Lizemores, from the scene. He was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital with serious injuries. He has since been released from the hospital, according to hospital operators.
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, but it appear that excessive speed may have played a role, Sheriff Steve Kessler said.
The crash remains under investigation.
