A Charleston woman was arrested early Tuesday on charges of first-degree robbery, said Sgt. Tony Hazelett of the Charleston Police Department.
About 2:45 a.m. a woman was walking in the area of Morris Street and Washington Street East when another woman knocked her to the ground and forcibly removed a purse from her shoulder, Hazelett said.
She provided a description to police that led to the arrest of Taneicsha Clemons, 30, of Charleston, he said. The victim's billfold was found in her possession, he said.
The victim, who is in her 20s, was not injured.
Clemons was taken to South Central Regional Jail.
