CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Firefighters are working to determine what caused a fatal fire that destroyed two Braxton County homes.
A house and mobile home that sat side by side on Runyon Ridge Road, which is near the Nicholas County line, were fully engulfed in flames when firefighters from Gassaway, Frametown and Birch River arrived just after 5 a.m. Tuesday, said Roger Nottingham, a Gassaway firefighter.
Nottingham said firefighters recovered a man's body from the house. The man's father and son were able to escape the flames, he said.
Authorities have not yet released the family's identity.
The house and the mobile home were a total loss, Nottingham said.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating, along with the Braxton Sheriff's Office.
