CHARLESTON, W.Va. - State Police believe a Monroe County woman plotted with a love interest to kill her husband, whose body was found behind the couple's Alderson area home.
Amber Lee Richardson, 25, of Alderson, was arrested late Monday. Her alleged accomplice, Joshua Neal Hubbard, 37, of Peterstown, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after an extensive search of the area.
Both are charged with first-degree murder in the death of Danny Ray Richardson Jr., 33, whose body was found under a pile of leaves behind the Flat Mountain Road home.
Sgt. C.K. McKenzie went to the home Monday morning to investigate after Amber Richardson's father filed a missing person report, according to a criminal complaint filed in Monroe Magistrate Court.
Danny Richardson had been missing for several days when his father-in-law, concerned about Danny's well-being, called police to report him missing, State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous said in a release.
McKenzie met with Amber Richardson, who told troopers she wasn't really concerned about her husband's whereabouts. She showed McKenzie a text message from the victim's phone number telling her that he was leaving and would text her when he got settled, the complaint said. But his phone was at their house, it said.
The trooper wrote in the complaint that he was concerned because her story didn't match with the investigation to that point. She accompanied him back to the union detachment for questioning.
That's where she told them about the plan and the murder, troopers said.
