CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Michigan man who drove to Putnam County to visit a 12-year-old girl with whom he had been communicating and sharing sexually explicit pictures online will spend 12 years in federal prison.
U.S. District Judge Robert Chambers also sentenced Ashlee C. Liebert, 34, of Whitmore Lake to 20 years of supervised release for traveling across state lines with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said in a statement.
Liebert pleaded guilty in October 2012.
Liebert started an online relationship with a 12-year-old Putnam County girl in November 2011 while playing World of Warcraft, an online role-playing game that involves a fantasy world. He continued to talk to her until March 2012, when he was arrested in Putnam County.
Authorities said he spoke to her by email and phone over that five-month period. The two had numerous conversations that were sexual in nature and also exchanged sexually explicit photographs.
In March the two argued about the girl spending time with another girl. Liebert suspected the two were in a relationship, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County.
He left his home in Michigan about 6:30 p.m. March 10 and arrived in Putnam County about 1 a.m. March 11.
