FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- A Fayette County man accused of sexually molesting a child who had been living with him was arrested.
Johnny Jim Berry Jr., 52, of Deep Water was arrested Monday and charged with one count of first degree sexual abuse and one count of sexual abuse by a parent or guardian, according to a statement issued by the Fayette Sheriff's Department.
Child Protective Services received a report on May 30 concerning an alleged molestation incident in Deep Water. Deputies worked with CPS on the investigation and identified the suspect as Berry. The victim was a child living in Berry's home at the time of the incident.
"The sexual abuse of a child is a reprehensible crime, and one which the Fayette County Sheriff's Office takes very seriously," Sheriff Steve Kessler said in the release. "The investigation of this type of alleged crime is a very high priority for the Sheriff's Office.
"We are extremely grateful for the assistance provided to us in this investigation by the Child Protective Services Division of the (DHHR) and by the Just For Kids, Inc. Child and Youth Advocacy Center in Oak Hill. The services provided by Just For Kids, Inc. greatly improve our effectiveness in investigating allegations of this nature."Berry was arraigned in Fayette Magistrate Court and is being held at Southern Regional Jail on $25,000 bond.
