A Jackson County woman was killed in a fiery crash near the Kanawha County line after crashing into a tractor-trailer.
It happened about 8 p.m. Wednesday near the Goldtown exit on Interstate 77. The 49-year-old Ravenswood woman, whose name has not yet been released, was heading north when she went off the road and crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer parked in the emergency lane, said Sgt. Michael Baylous, State Police spokesman.
Baylous said the car burst into flames. Trooper J.M. Comer was the first on the scene and broke the window out of the woman's car in attempt to free her.
The truck's driver tried to put the fire out with extinguishers from his rig. Baylous said paramedics arrived shortly after and confirmed that the woman was dead.
No other injuries were reported. The northbound lanes of Interstate 77 were closed for several hours. Troopers are investigating the crash.
