BECKLEY, W.Va. — A former Pineville official who admitted stealing public funds has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Former Town Manager Brandee Phillips-Ellis also must spend three years on supervised release after she completes the sentence.
Phillips-Ellis had pleaded guilty in March to a federal theft charge.
Prosecutors say the 30-year-old Phillips-Ellis took the money from the Wyoming County town and from SAFE Housing Economic Development Inc. in McDowell County.
The Register-Herald (http://bit.ly/1ae29Pm ) reports that U.S. District Judge Irene Berger sentenced Phillips-Ellis on Tuesday in Beckley.
Berger told Phillips-Ellis that her conduct affected many people and its impact potentially could be long term.
Phillips-Ellis told the judge that she was ashamed of her actions.
