CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Fayette County man was charged with murdering a woman whose remains were found near Oak Hill earlier this week.
William Frederick "Fred" Cody, 61, of Fayetteville, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder, Sgt. Michael Baylous said in a press release.
Trooper J.L. Milam took a missing persons report Monday for Santanea Byers, 24, from Scarbro.
An interview with Cody, an acquaintance of Byers', during the investigation led officers to an outbuilding on Blaketown Road near Oak Hill where troopers found remains that matched Byers' description.
The remains were taken to the state Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy and identification.
Cody was arraigned in Fayette Magistrate Court on the murder charge and is being held at Southern Regional Jail without bond.
