WELCH, W.Va. -- A Virginia man and his sister charged in the slaying of War Mayor Thomas Hatcher are set to stand trial Aug. 13.
Earl J. Click of Grundy, Va., and Rebecca Lynn Hatcher of War are charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy. Hatcher was the mayor's daughter-in-law.
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph (http://bit.ly/125jWQF ) reports that after a Wednesday hearing, McDowell County Prosecutor Edward Kornish said the pair will be tried separately in different courtrooms.
The incident shocked the city of just under 900 people. Scores turned out to the slain city official's funeral last summer.
Kornish had said earlier that a plastic bag was found next to the mayor's head on a bed. There also were signs of a struggle.
