CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A St. Albans man was arrested early Wednesday morning after his girlfriend notified authorities that he had beaten her and was driving while drunk, said Robert Houck, assistant chief of the South Charleston Police Department.
The woman fled her apartment on Colonial Park Drive and went to a nearby 7-Eleven to call 911 and South Charleston Police responded, Houck said. Police saw a truck driven by the suspect that was headed toward Dunbar.
Jonathan Byrd, 33, of St. Albans was stopped near the Dunbar exit, he said. After running him through the system, police discovered three previous DUI charges on his record.
Byrd was taken to South Charleston Police Department for processing. He refused to be fingerprinted and threatened to beat an arresting officer, Houck said.Byrd is being held in South Central Regional Jail on charges of driving while revoked for DUI, domestic battery, assault on an officer and failure to submit to booking.
