Man in critical condition following weekend attack
A St. Albans man is in critical condition following a weekend attack on Iowa Street in Charleston, authorities said today.
During an altercation about 2 p.m. Saturday, Marvin Gillespie, 31, sustained serious injuries to his face and eye when he was beaten with brass knuckles, said Sgt. Tony Hazelett, of the Charleston Police Department.
Gillispie was treated at Charleston Area Medical Center and later transferred to Ruby Memorial in Morgantown where he is in critical condition, Hazelett said. Joshua Blanchett, 31, was arrested on charges of malicious wounding as well as being a fugitive from justice due to a violation of a court order in Butler County, Ohio, Hazelett said. Blanchett is being held in South Central Regional Jail with bail set at $50,000.
