CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A 15-year-old Charleston boy died after his dirt bike was struck by a vehicle in Clay County.
Robert Lee Bowman, 15, was riding his dirt bike about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday along Nebo School Road when he pulled onto W.Va. 16 in front of a passenger vehicle, a secretary at the State Police detachment in Clay said.
She said the woman was driving along W.Va. 16 and was coming around a curve when she struck the boy. The woman told troopers she tried to stop but couldn't in time.
The driver remained at the scene after the crash. No charges are expected and her identity was not released.
The secretary said the boy lived in Charleston with his mother but was visiting his father in Clay County. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but it wasn't fastened properly. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
