CHARLESTON, W.Va. - State Police have released the name of the man found dead in his pickup submerged in a Jackson County creek.
Trooper M.P. Fannin identified the driver of the white GMC Sierra found in Sand Creek Tuesday afternoon as Carey Todd Emery, 57, of Reedy in Roane County.
A man on an all-terrain vehicle spotted the top of Emery's pickup in the creek near the Silverton Dairy Queen and called for help.
Troopers and firefighters from Ravenswood and Silverton pulled the truck from the water.
It appeared that Emery had been heading south on I-77 when he went off the road and into the grassy median. He continued on in the median until he ran out of grass and crashed over a hillside between two bridges over the creek, Trooper W.F. Donohoe said Tuesday.
The truck landed nose down before falling back onto its tires and coming to rest in the creek.
Emery's body was sent to the state Medical Examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
