CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Two men arrested after an ambush-style shootout in March have been indicted by a Kanawha Grand Jury on charges of attempted murder.
Jon Paul Clements, 33, of Ruffner Avenue, and Robert Jared Smith, 34, of Matthews Avenue, are also charged with malicious wounding, conspiracy and wanton endangerment.
Police believe the two men fired more than 60 rounds from handguns near the Seoul of Charleston restaurant on Washington Street West in early March. Injured in that shooting were Andre "A3" Williamson, 25, and Cierra Leftwich, 22, both of Charleston.
Authorities allege the shooting was in retaliation for the murder of David Booker last October, who was found dead in the East End with two bullet wounds.
Leftwich was an innocent bystander.
Richard Hilliard, 24, is serving a 15-year sentence for the murder of Booker, but he told a judge that Williamson was in the car when that crime occurred. That murder was drug-related, prosecutors said.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt. It means the grand jury has determined there is enough evidence to proceed with a trial.
