CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Authorities say a Marion County man who photographed himself choking and sexually abusing young boys is being held on a $1.2 million bond.
James Paul Kendall, 31, of Farmington, was arrested Monday after an investigation into allegations that he'd abused two 5-year-old boys.
The investigation began Thursday after a woman came to the office to report that Kendall abused her son, said State Police Sgt. Adam Scott of Fairmont's Crimes Against Children Unit.
Troopers involved in the Crimes Against Children Unit undergo training to interview children about sensitive topics like abuse. Troopers interviewed the boy and another boy while Scott interviewed Kendall.
Kendall, who is related to both victims, was living with one of the boys' families. Scott contacted that boy's mother, who, after a brief search of Kendall's room, turned up a flash drive and five or six CDs. She took them to authorities once she saw what was on them.
Scott said the discs contained hundreds and hundreds of images of child pornography, many of which were downloaded from the Internet. They confronted Kendall with the pictures during the interview.
"He pretty much confessed to everything," Scott said. "He was very nonchalant, not caring, no big deal -- it didn't seem like he cared a whole lot that he was in serious trouble.
"He's an odd one," Scott said.
