STAR CITY, W.Va. -- The Star City bridge in Monongalia County has reopened after being hit by a runaway barge.
Media outlets report that state highways officials closed the bridge as a precaution after the accident occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday. The bridge reopened about four hours later following an inspection.
Granville Police Chief Craig Corkrean says the impact of the collision knocked a 4-foot slab of concrete off the bridge's base.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities say the barge had been tied off but it broke free. The barge's owner hasn't been determined.
The bridge carries U.S. 19 across the Monongahela River.
