A man accused of robbing a Kanawha City bank last year has had his trial postponed.
Joseph Pike Dempsey, 32, of South Charleston was in court Thursday to ask Kanawha Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey for the continuance. She agreed and set the trial for Jan. 13.
Dempsey was arrested in June 2012 and charged with robbing Fifth Third Bank in Kanawha City. Police said he entered the bank at 10 a.m. on June 7 and showed a gun. He forced tellers on the floor and took cash. Police said later they believed the weapon was a pellet gun.
His defense attorney, Troy Giatras, said prosecutors have not turned over to him video evidence from two other businesses in the vicinity and he asked for time to review that evidence.Dempsey posted a $150,000 bond and is on home confinement.
