One man is in the hospital and another in jail following an altercation in the 1500 block of Red Oak Street on Sunday evening, said Sgt. Tony Hazelett, assistant chief of detectives for the Charleston Police Department.
The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when the two men were intoxicated and began arguing, Hazelett said. The suspect accused the victim of saying things about his family and the argument became violent, he said.
Thomas Lewis, 75, of Charleston was stabbed and beaten over the head with the handle of a knife, he said. Lewis was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital where he remained under evaluation Monday morning, a hospital operator said.Richard Brannon, 55, of Charleston was charged with malicious wounding and transported to South Central Regional Jail.
