A Parkersburg man was arrested after police found his elderly mother in deplorable condition while in his care.
Steven Nicolson 58, was arrested Monday after police went to his Spring Street home.
His mother, Ruth Nicolson, 88, had been living in his home in August 2013 but Detective D.A. Moody wrote in a complaint filed in Wood Magistrate Court that Nicolson failed to provide care for the woman, according to a statement issued by Parkersburg police.
Officers found Ruth Nicolson lying in a bed covered in urine and feces, according to the statement. She also appeared to be malnourished.
Adult Protective Services was called in to handle the non-criminal side of the investigation. Ruth Nicolson reportedly was in a local hospital with non-life threatening ailments, the statement said.
Nicolson was charged with neglect of an incapacitated adult, a misdemeanor, and was released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.
