A Mingo County woman who shared a bed with her infant daughter while under the influence is facing a felony child neglect charge after the baby was found dead.
Jennifer Lynn Harmon, 42, of Newtown, was arrested Monday and charged with child neglect resulting in death. Mingo sheriff's deputies said Brier Harmon, 1 month, died in September 2010.
Harmon and the infant slept in the same bed. She told deputies that she had consumed about six beers the day before but that she woke up about 4 a.m. Sept. 20 to find Brier dead, according to a complaint filed in Mingo Magistrate Court.
The state Medical Examiner's Office on Aug. 13, 2013, listed the cause of death for the infant as "accidental overlay associated with bed-sharing with an adult caretaker who disclosed having abused alcoholic beverages on the night prior to the child's death," the complaint said.
Harmon is being held at Southwestern Regional Jail on $25,000 bond.
