A New York woman pleaded not guilty to a charge of child neglect after police said she texted a picture of a knife being held to her baby's throat.
Meleny Kranwinkel, 23, was allowed to return to New York after her hearing Thursday before Kanawha Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib. Her trial is set for Feb. 3.
She and her sister, Cecile, were arrested after the baby's father, who lives in New York, contacted the police saying he had received the message and was concerned about the child's safety.
Police later determined the child, and other children in the residence, were not in danger. Only Meleny, the baby's mother, was indicted.
