Police say pair attacked woman over prescription drug

By From staff reports

A beating in St. Albans that left a woman hospitalized and a pair behind bars was over a stolen prescription, police say.

St. Albans Sgt. M.T. Page was patrolling last Friday in the 2400 block of Grant Avenue when Brooke Vaughan ran to the cruiser trying to get the officer's attention.

Page got out of the vehicle and saw Vaughan's injured head and face, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Magistrate Court.

Vaughan was taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston. She spoke to Detective M.K. Elkins Tuesday at the police department about the incident.

She said Jason Pauley, 32, and Ashley McCune, 23, both of Grant Avenue, struck and kicked her in the head after she found her prescription in McCune's purse, the complaint said.

Pauley and McCune were arrested Wednesday and were charged with malicious assault and robbery, both felonies. They are being held at South Central Regional Jail on $25,000 bond each.
