CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A group that investigates alleged misconduct by lawyers is requesting the dismissal of a disciplinary complaint against convicted Mingo County Judge Michael Thornsbury.
The state Judicial Disciplinary Counsel brought the complaint against Thornsbury last month.
Thornsbury pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to a conspiracy charge in a scheme to protect the reputation of the county sheriff who later was slain in an unrelated shooting. Earlier in the day, he submitted a letter of resignation and consented to disbarment in a letter to the Office of Disciplinary Counsel.
Thornsbury also is forbidden from holding public office again.
Disciplinary Counsel attorney Teresa Tarr says the disciplinary complaint is now moot.
