ECKMAN -- A McDowell County man was arrested on charges of attempted murder and malicious wounding after allegedly stabbing another man three times during an altercation in the parking lot of the Elizabeth Drewry Apartments.
Virgil Wade, 54, of the apartment complex in Eckman, was arrested in his apartment Saturday afternoon and was being held Saturday night at the Welch Detachment of the West Virginia State Police where he was being processed before being transported to the McDowell County Jail, according to Trooper B.D. Gillespie of the Welch Detachment of the West Virginia State Police.
Gillespie said he received a call about the altercation in Eckman at 5:30 p.m. and traveled to the location of the altercation, where he observed Ricky Helm, 49, of Powhatan, bleeding from the left side of his neck.
"Mr. Helm advised me that he had been stabbed in the head, neck and chest by Mr. Wade," he said.Gillespie said he arrested Wade at his apartment without incident.
