Former Kanawha custodian guilty of sexual abuse
A jury has found a former Kanawha County school custodian guilty of sexual abuse of a juvenile.
John Cordell Johnson, 56, of St. Albans, was arrested earlier this year and indicted by a Kanawha Grand Jury. He went on trial this week before Kanawha Circuit Judge Duke Bloom.
The jury reached a verdict Wednesday. Johnson will be sentenced in December and faces a possible five- to 25-year sentence for the crime. Prosecutors said the female victim was 7 years old when the abuse began. Johnson has been incarcerated at South Central Regional Jail since his arrest in April.
