Police arrest five on meth charges
Nicholas County deputies investigating gunshots instead found a meth lab, leading to the arrest of five people.
Nicholas Cpl. J.S. Bennett was looking at about 1 a.m. Wednesday for the source of gunshots reported in the Werth area when he approached a home and knocked on the door.
According to a press release issued by the Nicholas Sheriff's Department, Bennett could smell a strong chemical odor commonly linked to meth labs coming from the house, the address of which was not available Wednesday.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for the home and found items inside used to make meth, the release said.
Casey Renee Adkins, 30, of Summersville; Joseph Albert Rose, 28, of Birch River; and Tony Lee Holmes, 33, Darnell Lynn Holmes, 39, and Julia Marie Holmes, 60, all of Widen, were arrested at the home.
Each was charged with attempting to operate a meth lab among other related charges. Deputies said more arrests are pending.
