Two arrested after man is beaten and robbed near Cross Lanes
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two people have been arrested in connection with the robbery and beating of a man in the Cross Lanes area, authorities said.
Deputy J. Ferrell of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office responded to a call 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9 on Old Goff Mountain Road where he found the victim, John Miller, 33, of Cross Lanes with his face covered in blood and swollen, said Cpl. Brian Humphreys.
Miller said he went for a ride with a girl he knew, Chelsey Flavin, 23, of Ona, after meeting her at a nearby shopping plaza. He told police that she drove him to a remote area, exited the car and opened the trunk where Christopher Estep, 26, was hiding.
He said the couple then attacked him and took his wallet along with some other items.
While at the scene, the officer observed Miller was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred. The deputy attributed this to the injuries to Miller's head. Paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital.
Ferrell obtained information that led him to the arrest of Flavin and Estep. They were each charged with robbery, a felony, and are being held in Western Regional Jail.
