CHARLESTON, W.Va -- A Logan County basketball coach is facing misdemeanor charges for allegedly shoving a police officer after a fight on the court.
Mark Hatcher, Logan High boys' basketball coach, was arrested Saturday night after a fight broke out during game at Chapmanville High School. The Wildcats took on the Scott High Skyhawks Saturday during a tournament and took home a win.
Details from police on the incident were limited Sunday. Hatcher was free on bond Sunday but was not available for comment.
Chapmanville Sgt. D.J. Miller wasn't at the game but had the officer's report from the incident Sunday. He said a fight apparently broke out during the game and that Hatcher got involved in the scuffle.
Miller said there apparently was a heated discussion between Hatcher and the officer and that the officer then tried to calm the coach and escort him to the bench. The sergeant said Hatcher shoved and cursed at the officer at some point during the incident.
Hatcher was taken into custody and charged with assault and battery on a police officer, both misdemeanors.
