Ex-W.Va. sheriff to be sentenced for wiretapping

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The former sheriff of Clay County is set to appear in federal court after pleading guilty to hacking his wife's work computer.

Federal prosecutors say Miles Slack is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday afternoon in Charleston. He faces up to five years in prison.

Slack pleaded guilty to a wiretapping charge in September.

The government says Slack secretly installed a keystroke logger on a computer in the Clay County Magistrate Court office in April, when he and his wife were still married.

Slack admitted he intended to monitor her activity, including messages she sent through Internet chat and e-mail. The couple has divorced.

Slack resigned and was replaced by Garrett Samples.
